SUPER BOX BOX DEMO v2

Foreword

Hop and bop your way through plenty of levels throughout the multiple worlds. Use your main mechanic to place your own platforming boxes and interact with the multiple gimmicks (more gimmicks coming post-demo!) to make your way to the exit. Collect coins for a higher score, or attempt a one-sitting speedrun, while enjoying a retro-style banger of a chiptune soundtrack.

This is a work in progress, feel free to leave feedback, both positive and negative, to help me improve future versions of the game! Thank you for playing! <3

Cute little game! Had a really good time with it. The freeze frame mechanic was really interesting and I had fun experimenting with it ^^

I did find the control scheme for keyboard to be a little weird, but otherwise it's great so far haha

wow, the black/white , the music...this gives me so much nostalgia, i love it

Heya, it took me longer than I wanted but I finally got to dive into this! I really enjoyed the box mechanic and you introduced it well, the first level with doors in particular gave me one of those satisfying small Aha Moments :)

The two things I'd request/suggest would be Switch Pro Controller support, and some combination of alternate/custom palettes or a higher contrast mode to help make the interactive items a little more visually distinct from ambient background elements.

Well done overall, looking forward to watching this as it grows!

This is a really fun cute little game! Love the soundtrack, and the mechanic is simple yet lends itself to a lot of flexibility. Thanks for the demo and I look forward to the full release!

excellent game , finished it !

This game is so fun. The music is good, the mechanics are fluent and the design is soo sweet. In a word, magnificent.

Thank you for the kind words! People who take the time to play through the game and let us know what they think are highly motivating to continue improving on the product. I hope you'll be back to play the next demo version once it's out!

This is a cute game but it feels like it goes on for too long. There are some really clever ideas for puzzles/challenges but there's also a lot of filler in-between that just repeats them or does something much simpler than what came before it. By the time I got to 1-20 or so, I just wanted to get to the end (I eventually stopped at 33; wish it would tell you how many there are).

I liked the puzzles that did something new with the boxes. My favourites were using it to limit your jump height rather than to get higher up, the first door puzzle, and the (first) one with a door on a moving platform, which stumped me for a bit. Those felt good to figure out, I just wish it didn't repeat simple ideas so much.

Hi! Thank you so much for playing, and also taking the time to leave a comment! Just a headsup; there are 35 levels in total!

I'm currently reiterating the game's design and the way I design levels for a 2nd demo version, using feedback I've received from you and others- less filler, more gimmicks, more interesting gameplay. I totally agree that the demo feels dragged out so from here on forward I'm looking to do better. Stay tuned! :D

Pros:

-enjoyable music

-fitting soundeffects

-fairly polished on a visual level

Cons:

-gameplay and appeal is crippled by the 1bit aesthetic (for example, some spikes blend in with the background, causing some unfair deaths. The main character blends in with background elements. The the tiles would benefit from a pattern, giving the character sprites black outlines would help prevent the blending and changing from pure 1 bit to having elements monochrome would help with the overall enjoyment)

-The Gameplay has no real stable ground (before elaborating, keep in mind that it comes from someone, who stopped after 1-29) The main mechanic of box spawning feels barely fleshed out with the only secondary mechanic being the doors. While it is meant to be a puzzle game, going into every level instantly knowing as to what to doesnt really help it, especially when the majority of this game's challenge comes from moreso precision platforming than what's expected. I wouldn't really mind it if there was more diversity (maybe boxes, that have special attributes. E.g a box that moves linearly would help with both styles of gameplay).

While there are some more flaws, these two are the most noteworthy of the bunch.
